it's character Driven

So hopefully you've noticed the big box on the right.  That is a randomly generated character creator.  So if you're bored of the same old thing, want a new path to try, or really just burnt out on ideas check out the handy lil tool my wonderful friend William Hoopes made for us.  This is the exact tool I use for my character Design class to help get designers out of their normal routines and thinking about problem solving.  TELL YOUR ARTIST FRIENDS PLEASE!  I have a website where I will be keeping all of the pictures everyone makes at http://itscharacterdriven.blogspot.com/.   It should be real fun to see how another artists design some wacky characters.  So generate away on that little button and get making.  Go to the blog, send pics and emails to itscharacterdriven@gmail.com.  Thanks and cya online!

hooked on a feeling

From last nights Drawing Club
Other artists and the schedule at the link.

The next to last starfighter

I was watching David Rappazort making some TMNT art and even though this isnt my usual style I wanted to just play around a bit.  Grig was a great character I always wanted to meet growing up.  He was a pimp.  Engineer, pilot, jokester, coolest alien partner ever.

Crazy ol Coffee Lady

I got the opportunity to watch this crazy yet sweet woman walk in.  Give a crazy face on the coffee prices and talk quickly in her natural language as she "scuttled" out of the place.  Her young granddaughter waiting outside exasperated by her day of shopping with grandma. (I assume)

I'm going to plug my wife........

That's right, just to get your attention I choose horrible phrasing!  Julie is a talented jewelry designer and she is designing some awesome pieces.  She has a website (which I made a logo for) and a nice blog she started.  If you know of the ladies who like awesome one of a kind pieces or are a fan yourself of original sweetness please go check her out and show her some love.  Julie Bean and the Blue Pig Design House.

The City (Character Update)

Finally had some time to redevelop the City.  I felt I was getting heavy handed and too comic booky with the IP so I started down this path to find the right combo that read "Bean" and appropriate style for the story I plan to tell.  This is getting closer.  I may have to disassemble the design once more if I continue down the Graphic Novel approach (too much detail vs time constraints of making that much detail in every frame)  I rendered her for a more CG animation/ video game approach but may take the exact same image and pair it down to 2D animated film and see what that does for the story.  Still, the journey is the destination for me so it's a thrill to hit all these strides.  Let me know what you think.

Head on over to THE CITY to see more of the story and where it's heading

Chubby proud warrior

So the first night of class We all drew from a bag an adjective, a descriptor, and an archetype.  Our in class assignment we had to make was a Proud, Chubby, Warrior.  We all did thumbnails, I did some demo's on starting silhouettes and info explanations.  I'd thought I'd show a before and after here.  I chose this guy and probably do another tomorrow it was so fun.  I did a completely different approach and only used a custom brush.  It's a rectangle brush which is the picture top left.

warm up before first night of teaching

The Cold War Kid designs

Did some quick brown paper sketches on the cold war kid.  I had so much fun I will probably do this with Fil n Mantis again.  Brown paper, pumpkin orange pencil, and a white pastel pencil.  A quick photoshop was used to "punch it in"
