A talented artist turned my 2D into 3D!

I gotta say.  Awesome.  Felipe Bassi is a 3D modeler in Brazil.  Not only do they make brilliant fighters they also make skilled artisans over there......   I think he did a superb job.  I would totally dig a 3D print of this guy.  Oh man I can taste it.  Anyone know of a good place?

So here's the original art that Felipe used as inspiration.

And his 3D model!

Great job Felipe!

Warm up with shapes

I did 2 smaller "ideas".  1 approach to how I warm up in the morning and then another approach towards design.  It was only an hour so I couldn't finish the piece but here's where I took it when I got home.

Interview With Character Designer Brett “2D Bean” :: ArtCast #61

“It’s tough. You have to have to relax a little bit. You have to kind of let yourself wander and play a bit. …but then you have to have a purpose for the character.”
-Brett Bean

In This Episode:

  • Why you might NOT want to work at Pixar or Disney…
  • What makes an appealing character design?
  • Do you HAVE to do your own personal projects to succeed as a character designer?
  • How you might miss your creative calling if you don’t question everything.
  • How your artistic growth is like video games.
  • How to battle bitterness.
  • What to do when you feel like giving up…
Click through to listen to the interview and watch a Character Design + Digital Painting Demo by Mr. Bean…

Freelance Freedom:

“I was talking to one of the Pixar guys and he [asked me] how much of my wanting to work at Disney or Pixar was just hubris. [He told me to] dissect the reasoning behind my goals. That was tough. But I went home and I did some soul searching. It was the best advice I could have [received]. He was right. I want to work in an environment where I’m learning and I’m helping and I’m making people laugh and I’m making people happy… …doing art for a living. And then everything switched. My goal was no longer thinking ‘I have to be here or there…’ There are so many great companies that I’d love to work with… But it’s no longer THE goal. It’s not the end-all-be-all.”

Slugterra! NOW ON DISNEY XD

So I've been working with Nerd Corps. and Disney TV on a new show that debuted Oct. 15th.  Slugterra.  Super fun and I thought they all did a great job on the show.  A pleasure to work with too.  Special thanks to Eric Calderon for finding me and bringing me onto the show.  And the rest of the crew Andy, Nancy, Rob, Ace, and company who were fun to work with on all the conference calls and meets.  I will only post slugs that have shown up on the official website.  More to come, promise.  Watch the show and hopefully we can make more slugs for a season 2.  Disney XD.  SLUGTERRA SHOW LINK

More in the next few posts.  Also I will not show the countless number of ideas that we went through as that's still useable.  Meet me in person and I will have some original pages for sale.  I may have gone through 200 sheets of designs at least 6 a page.  Super fun.  Let me know what you think.
