Kings Road art

I Got to work with some fine and extremely talented folks over at
or
It was their game called Kings Road and you can play it free now.  Click on over.  Here is a smattering of what I helped with from designs, to caricatures, storyboards, and under painting establishing shots.  It was an interesting project to see the characters come to life with their in house painters.  They did it to keep a consistent approach across the art assets and it was super fun to see the stuff change and morph into what it is now.  Greg Faillace is the art director and it's fun to work with someone so talented, trusting, and concise.  Good times.  I hope they need me again with a different game down the road.  This is about 1/3rd of the work.  If time, I'll add more if people are interested.

The Drawing Club Sessions

From the last session of 2012 at Bob Kato's Drawing club.  Stacey Walker in steam punk themed attire.  None of these are touched up.  Just scans and in. Between 5-15 minutes.  The color one I spent a few more minutes on during the break.  There's a couple that I like so I'll be doing some paintings of those ones.  At the cons I sell a one of a kind print and the original so look for some of these next time you see me.  Have a good weekend!

Q&A Morning warmups

I get a asked a lot of questions so I'll answer them all here regarding my morning warmups.

  • You can find my daily warmups through twitter or instagram.  In both programs, look for 2dbean.  You can find links to the right on this blog.  I also eventually put them on tumblr.
  • Time wise these are between 5-20 minutes dependent on the design and intricacies............... and caffeination levels.
  • Materials used are Copic sketch markers, Prismacolor markers, micron pen .005 for the under drawing and a brush pen for the thick lines.  (Zebra or Kuretake brush pen.)  A white gel pen and a white pencil for the highlights.  A brown paper wired earthbound cachet sketchpad.  All pens I get are available at www.jetpens.com
  • As for how "accurate" I am regarding design vs. observation.  I tend to only have between 10 seconds and 1 minute to observe and remember my subjects so I definitely choose to draw adjectives and not nouns.  Sharp, soft, bubbly and not the eyes go here or the nose ends like this.  After my design sense remembers why I looked at them in the first place, I remember basic colors and style of clothing they have on.
  • People do notice and rarely are mad, they enjoy it and quite a few patrons recognize others in the shop.  Most people are pleasant and happy...even in LA.
  • I generally try to sit and sketch for an hour to warm up and get my day going.  Usually up and out the door by 8 AM and taking advantage of the weather I sit outside for all this.
Hopefully this answers most the questions I get on a regular basis.  Comment on the post if you have any more and I'll make sure to get to you.  Hope your week is awesome! Keep drawing.

Faces

I'm trying to really get out of my normal pattern.  These are all French Grey Prismacolors and blue pencil.  Trying to push my shapes and create a fun feel with the values.

The last one is Milton.  A nice retired gentleman I speak with frequently at the coffee shop.  A wood carver from Oklahoma, a wife in Africa, and a love for donuts and storytelling.  I like to talk like him as its soothes my brain.  A drawl sound elongating his vowels.  A sweet sweet man.
These are but a few samples of one of the art books I am self producing and asking for help in Kickstarter with.  A huge collection of character observations about 100 pages.  Should be very soon with more announcements on this next adventure into publishing.
